anderson

Settled into an upper Sonoran site in North Scottsdale’s Whisper Rock Estates development, the Anderson residence embraces a design influenced by the Craftsman movement of the early 1900s, as well as later Southern California rambling ranch homes. Both movements are sympathetically reinterpreted to harmonize with the beauty of Whisper Rocks Estates and the Sonoran desert. The home’s striking, Territorial Ranch design emphasizes such natural elements as native stone which provides a long, horizontal base on which rests the exposed adobe, earth-block structure. Both indigenous materials tie the dwelling to the land, while steel-forged, metal anchors, classic slate tile roofing, and heavy timber detailing create solidity for the casual, rustic dwelling. The result is a sensitive desert home, one that provides a generous and comfortable space for the couple, their children who frequently return for visits, as well as relatives and guests.
